Zion Williamson finished with a career-high vs. Ja Morant, Grizzlies

Zion Williamson and Ja Morant met on the court for the first time as NBA players on Friday night as the Pelicans won, 139-111.

No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson scored a career-high 24 points on Friday night to lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a 139-111 win over Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies.

The matchup marked the first meeting between the top two picks in the 2019 NBA Draft after Williamson recently made his official debut against the San Antonio Spurs on Jan. 22. Williamson also added six rebounds and three assists.

Meanwhile, Morant finished with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field in the loss while he also added three assists and one rebound in 27 minutes of work. The two former AAU teammates exchanges jerseys after the game.

The first meeting between Williamson and Morant didn’t prove to be a close game with the Pelicans leading by as many as 32 points in the fourth quarter but the contest was still rather entertaining seeing the two friends battle on the court.

The Pelicans and Grizzlies meet next on March 21 in Memphis.
