‘Zion Day’ becomes trending topic ahead of his official NBA debut

With Zion Williamson set to debut on Wednesday night, basketball fans took to social media to express their excitement.

The official debut of Zion Williamson is nearly here.

The No. 1 overall pick will take the court for the first time in the regular season on Wednesday night as the New Orleans Pelicans host the San Antonio Spurs.

The Pelicans plan to start Williamson on Wednesday night as the team will monitor his workload on the court. He will not be under a minutes restriction in his debut and will play in short bursts in order to stay fresh.

Ahead of his official debut, basketball fans took to social media to express excitement for the matchup as “Zion Day” became a trending topic in the United States on Wednesday morning.

The debut of Williamson is perhaps the most anticipated game of any rookie since LeBron James first suited up on Oct. 29, 2003. Williamson joins a team that has won 11 out of their last 16 games following a 13-game losing streak. As a result, the Pelicans are hanging around in the playoff picture, just three games back of eighth place in the Western Conference.

The game vs. the Spurs will tip-off at 9:30 p.m. ET.
