The Jets are not the only AFC East team ushering in a new era under center.
The Patriots made headlines Tuesday morning when they released Cam Newton. The move clears the way for rookie QB Mac Jones to start in New England. Jones was drafted 15th overall out of Alabama in April.
Barring anything unforeseen, Jones will face off against fellow first-round rookie Zach Wilson when the Jets host the Patriots in Week 2. The Jets took Wilson third overall out of BYU.
That matchup is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m.
With Jones running the show in New England, every expected starting quarterback in the AFC East is 25 or younger. Buffalo’s Josh Allen is the elder statesman of the group at 25, while Jones and Wilson are the babies of the bunch at 22. Wilson is the youngest at 22 years and 28 days.
Miami’s Tua Tagovailoa is 23.
