Zach LaVine explains late offensive mishap in loss to Wizards

The Bulls failed to get a good shot off in the closing seconds of Wednesday’s loss vs. Wizards.

The Chicago Bulls lost their second-straight game on Wednesday night, falling to the Washington Wizards in crunch time, 100-97.

Washington’s Kyle Kuzma hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with six seconds remaining before Zach LaVine tried to force a foul on a midrange jumper, failing to get the call or hit the shot, which ended the game and left people confused on the end game play call by Chicago.

LaVine spoke about the head scratching play following the loss.

“We were just trying to get a 3 off. And then when I went in to go pullup, I think it was Delon Wright fouled me. My instinct was to go up and try to get a 3-point play,” said LaVine after the game. “I was going for a pullup when he fouled me. I shot it. They didn’t call it. And that’s how it is.”

With DeMar DeRozan out of the lineup, the clutch time possession went to LaVine, which failed to give the Bulls a legit chance at forcing overtime.

“They were intentionally trying to foul. (Wright) looked at me and said, ‘I got you.’ So. But you leave it up to the stuff in the air now and for that stuff to be called. You don’t want to be in that position,” LaVine said.

Despite the late-game blunder, it was the 16-point blown lead against a undermanned Wizards squad by Chicago that ultimately led to the disappointing loss.
