No need to pinch yourselves, Aggie fans, because this is not a dream: the 2023 college football season is officially kicking into gear. With Texas A&M football’s fall camp underway as of last week, Sunday marked the team’s official media day.
Among the individuals to take the podium were Assistant Head Coach Elijah Robinson, Defensive Coordinator DJ Durkin, Offensive Coordinator Bobby Petrino, as well as players Max Johnson, Conner Weigman, Noah Thomas, and Bryce Anderson. Of course, media day wouldn’t be complete without the Aggies’ leader at the helm, Head Coach Jimbo Fisher.
Texas A&M is among the most intriguing programs to follow in the 2023 season, given the task ahead of them. Hot off a 5-7 campaign (2-6 SEC) last year that was anything but emblematic of the talent on the roster, Fisher is tasked with steering this team back on the right course moving forward, else there will be serious questions about the trajectory of this football program.
That opened the door for Jimbo to speak at length about the team’s mindset heading into the fall, how they will look back on 2022 as a means of informing what success means in 2023, as well as shed light on the new additions to the team. Namely, how he’s coalescing with his new offensive coordinator in Bobby Petrino, who is expected to put his much-needed imprint on the offensive playbook.
Additionally, Jimbo provided his two cents on a bevy of topics that has overwhelmed the landscape of college athletics as of late. Of course, there is the ongoing issue of sports gambling by both student and professional athletes and the subsequent policing of such matters. And, of course, Jimbo would be remiss not to comment on the evolving realignment that has engrossed the Power Five.
Below is Jimbo Fisher’s full press conference video from Fall Camp Media Day 2023 and notable highlights from his time at the podium.
