Yahoo! Sports sees Bills as “logical fit” for Jadeveon Clowney

Yahoo! Sports writer Matt Harmon sees defensive end Jadeveon Clowney as a “logical fit” to fill this void for the Bills.

The Buffalo Bills are in need of a big-time disruptive pass rusher from the edge. Yahoo! Sports sees the biggest name slated to hit the free agency market in the coming weeks, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, as a “logical fit” to fill this void for the Bills.

Clowney, the former No.1 overall pick in 2014, attended three Pro Bowls during his time with the Texans. He was traded to Seattle prior to the start of the 2019 season. .

Clowney, while a disruptive and game-changing force at times has not put up massive sack totals in his career. This past season, he recorded a career-low three sacks.

Yahoo says don’t be too worried about that, though:

Lauded far more by advanced metrics than traditional counting stats, Jadeveon Clowney is going to find a big payday this March. Despite injuries and a low sack total, Clowney made his presence felt in big moments for Seattle.

After making it to the playoffs in Josh Allen’s second season, the typically conservative Bills now have all the incentive in the world to get aggressive this offseason and try to make it over the hump. Buffalo has the makings of a fine platoon in their edge defender ranks but Clowney would immediately give them a cornerstone presence. With the third-most cap space in the NFL and with Allen on a rookie deal, they have the money to burn.

Buffalo has a boatload of cap room entering the offseason, currently sitting at approximately $83 million, according to Spotrac. The site pegs Clowney’s market value at about $20 million per season for six years. While this would be the most lucrative contract given out in team history, it would be quite the chance to land a superstar in the prime of his career. He would also give head coach Sean McDermott another standout player for Buffalo’s defense.
