Xavier Weaver put up a first half for the ages

After being held quiet in the desert against the Arizona State Sun Devils, Colorado wide receiver Xavier Weaver brought his A-game in the first half of Friday night’s game against the Stanford Cardinal. Weaver jumped out the gate with three catches for 53 yards, two receiving touchdowns and a third TD on a 14-yard run.

The senior has been one of quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ favorite targets on the season, and he found a lot of open field early in the Stanford secondary. Weaver opened the game’s scoring with a nine-yard touchdown reception less than five minutes into the first quarter:

Sanders again found Weaver on a beautiful deep ball in the second quarter after he created more than five yards of separation from the defender covering him.

And if it didn’t look easy enough for Weaver on his second touchdown, offensive coordinator Sean Lewis reached into his bag of tricks to get No.10 his third touchdown. Weaver essentially walked it in from the 15-yard line:
