WWE SmackDown preview 12/1/23: Randy Orton, Logan Paul and more

WWE is also promoting more potential drama for Damage CTRL tonight on WWE SmackDown from Brooklyn.

It’s December, which means it’s one of the rare months on the WWE calendar where we aren’t sprinting toward a premium live event but rather slowly building toward Royal Rumble in January. That doesn’t mean nothing will be happening tonight on WWE SmackDown from Brooklyn, however, as some big names are on tap.

Will Randy Orton call SmackDown his permanent home?

Make a heroic return at Survivor Series to help the good guys win? Check. Get that first singles win in a long time under your belt? Check.

Randy Orton is already looking plenty comfortable after his extended absence from WWE, but what we don’t know yet is which show he’ll end up on full time. WWE advertising him for SmackDown tonight could be a sign that he’s headed to Friday nights (unless he’s going to be a “free agent” who floats between shows).

Of course, taking up residence on SmackDown means potentially running afoul of The Bloodline, and it’s worth keeping in mind that we never got that Roman Reigns program with Orton before Randy’s injury. Watch to see if any seeds are planted for that in Brooklyn.

Who will emerge as a contender for Logan Paul?

Logan Paul accomplished his goal by claiming the United States Championship at Crown Jewel, but it’s one thing to win a WWE title and quite another to hold onto it. And since he’s made noises about wrestling becoming his full-time gig, he’s going to need to do that on a semi-regular basis.

The promotion around SmackDown is that Paul will “look for his first challenger,” so place your bets now on who might step up to try and become his No. 1 contender.

Will WarGames spur more changes in Damage CTRL?

It’s safe to say things didn’t go as planned at Survivor Series for Damage CTRL, which saw its formidable new roster defeated by a big name alliance of fan favorites. That’s bad news for the group, but potentially really unfortunate for Bayley.

While the Role Model is ostensibly still the leader of Damage CTRL, more and more things have been happening without her knowledge or approval. It wouldn’t be shocking if some of the others, including WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY, simply had enough of her.

Something is going to happen with this group tonight, and it’s quite possible it won’t end well for Bayley.

Update: WWE is also promoting a match between Kevin Owens and Grayson Waller for tonight’s card.
