WWE holding SmackDown in Puerto Rico the night before Backlash

WWE cited high pre-sale interest for Backlash as one of the reasons for the announcement.

WWE’s trip to Puerto Rico in May will be for more than just one event.

As revealed today, WWE will hold SmackDown on Friday, May 5 at Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, the same venue that will host Backlash the next night. The company touted “the high volume of Backlash ticket pre-registrations” as one of the reasons to hold another show there.

“The PRCDA and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company have a phenomenal track record of delivering large-scale events to the island,” said John Porco, WWE Executive Vice President, Live Events, in a press release. “Their partnership and support have allowed WWE to bring not just one — but two — nights of sports entertainment to Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot this May.”

Backlash is set to be hosted by Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican music megastar who has also dabbled in WWE over the past few years. It will be the first WWE premium live event in Puerto Rico since New Year’s Revolution in January 2005, which also took place at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot.

As with many of its events held consecutively in the same location, WWE will offer combo tickets to SmackDown and Backlash. Those go on sale on Monday, March 20 at 12 p.m. ET at ticketera.com. Backlash ticket pre-registration offers are also still available online for anyone interested.
