WR John Metchie considered the Texans’ most questionable pick in the 2022 NFL draft

The Houston Texans’ most questionable pick from the 2022 NFL draft was the selection of WR John Metchie, according to CBS Sports.

Houston Texans general manager Nick Caserio took chances in the 2022 NFL draft.

The Texans executed trades, but also had calculated risks when it came to their selections.

According to Josh Edwards from CBS Sports, the most questionable pick that Houston made during the draft was the selection of former Alabama receiver John Metchie, who tore his ACL in the SEC Championship in December 2021.

It sounds like a cop out, but these teams did a relatively good job of sticking to the board. Metchie was a bit of an outlier to me because he fights the ball a bit down the field. Combined with his injury history, his value was later on Day 2 for me. Houston has now taken a chance on a few Day 2 wide receivers over the last few years with Nico Collins and Metchie. The Texans are doing their due diligence in regards to giving Davis Mills a chance to prove himself this season.

Caserio and the Texans took in all of the information on Metchie and made the decision to bring him to Houston.

“We’ve talked about this previously, any time you draft a player, bring a player in the building, you’re essentially saying we’re comfortable with the situation,” said Caserio on April 29. “We understand what it is. I think the most important thing is for all of us to understand what it is, where he is, and then be able to put an action plan in place to give that player an opportunity to get back to his optimum level of performance.”

Dr. Lyle Cain, the Alabama football team doctor and also surgeon who worked on Metchie’s knee, said the wideout looked great three weeks after his surgery.
