Women Lose to Tennessee in SEC Tournament

The season came to an end for the Kentucky women’s basketball team on Thursday

The Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball season came to an end today with a 76-62 loss in the second round of the SEC Tournament to the Tennessee Volunteers. The Wildcats finish the disappointing season 12-20.

The Cat’s started the game quick, jumping out to an 8-3 lead before Tennessee came back and tied it up at 14-14. The first half was an ugly, low scoring affair with the Wildcats playing close, only being down 28-26 at the half.

However, in the third quarter the Vols started to pull away, going on a 10-0 run in the quarter and scoring 25 points to take a 53-44 lead after three quarters. Then in the fourth, UK was able to keep it within nine for a bit, but the Vols ultimately pulled away to win by 14.

Saniah Tyler led the Wildcats in scoring with 17 points, while Eniya Russell added 11 points off of the bench. Ajae Petty scored 12 points and had 11 rebounds in the loss. That was good for her 18th double double of the season. Maddie Scherr missed the game due to an injury.
