Wisconsin’s Week 4 opponent, new Big Ten rival names starting quarterback

The University of Southern California named redshirt junior Miller Moss its starting quarterback on Monday.

The news, although not directly revolving around the Badgers, is noteworthy for Luke Fickell’s crew ahead of its 2024 campaign. Wisconsin will square off against head coach Lincoln Riley’s Moss-lead Trojans in Los Angeles on Sept. 28.

UW’s Week 4 test will arrive exactly two weeks after its highly-anticipated Week 3 battle at home against the No. 5-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. The bout will also be Wisconsin’s first Big Ten test and its first away game of the season.

Moss served as the backup to Caleb Williams in 2023 — who went on to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Moss now takes the reins of Lincoln Riley’s high-power offense in what will be USC’s first taste of the Big Ten.

In his three-year tenure career in L.A., Moss is 66-for-92 (71.7%) for 914 yards with nine touchdowns through the air. The California native also set the record for most TD passes thrown in a Holiday Bowl following his six-touchdown output in the 2024 edition against No. 16 Louisville.

While it’s a welcome sight to see Williams off the turf, Moss will enter the match with both experience and wisdom when the Badgers make the trek to California. With two years sitting behind the future NFL star, Moss knows a thing or two about what it takes to perform in big spots.
