On Friday, the Wisconsin Badgers secured a verbal commitment from three-star inside linebacker Tyler Jansey out of Batavia, Illinois. This marks the first commitment for Paul Chryst and his staff in the 2023 recruiting class.
The Illinois native committed to Wisconsin over offers from Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Miami (OH), New Mexico State, Eastern Illinois, and Western Michigan.
Jansey’s commitment marks 23 consecutive years that the Badgers have poached a player from the neighboring state of Illinois.
As a junior, the 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker totaled 88.0 tackles, 16.0 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

Per 247 sports, Jansey is the 47th ranked linebacker in the 2023 class. It’s also worth noting that Bob Bostad acted as the lead recruiter throughout his entire process, and he knows a thing or two about inside linebacker play.
Wisconsin has had a remarkable track record identifying talent at linebacker, and this was a kid they were involved with very early in the process. Don’t concern yourself with the offer list, there is plenty of talent here as a hardnosed tackler that excels as getting down-hill and playing the gaps. Jansey is someone the staff is very excited to add to an accomplished inside linebacker room.
