On Thursday afternoon, Jack Coan was named to his third preseason watch list in addition to the watch lists for the Davey O’Brien and Maxwell Awards. Coan is now in the running for the Manning Award, which is given to the best college quarterback every season by the Sugar Bowl Committee.
The Manning Award is unique because it is the only award for quarterbacks that considers the postseason and bowl play of candidates. The previous winner was Heisman Winner and National Champion Joe Burrow, who played outstandingly in the postseason last year.
As Jack Coan continues to add awards that he is under consideration for, expectations for the senior quarterback continue to rise. He played well last season in his first full year under center, but without Jonathan Taylor, Coan will have to become the leader of this Wisconsin offense.
