Early Thursday afternoon, Wisconsin starting right guard Jon Dietzen was nominated for the Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award, which goes to athletes that display courage on or off the field for reasons like ‘overcoming an injury or physical handicap, preventing a disaster or living through hardship.’
Dietzen’s nomination comes after he was forced to leave the team for the 2019 season because of nagging injuries throughout the course of his Wisconsin career. After overcoming these injuries in his season away from the team, Dietzen returned to the team for this season and is back in the starting line up for the Badgers. He could follow former Wisconsin safety D’Cota Dixon, that won the award in 2017, as the only Badgers to win the prestigious award.
Jon Dietzen’s story is so inspiring because of his difficult journey back onto the field for Wisconsin, and the courage he needed to show to overcome the obstacles of his injuries.
Congrats to our guy @DietzenJon!
