Wisconsin NFL Draft Preview – Tyler Biadasz

Where will former Wisconsin Badger Tyler Biadasz land in the 2020 NFL draft.

With the storied history of Wisconsin’s offensive line, it is hard to become the first to do something. Biadasz was able to gain that distinction when he was awarded the Rimington Trophy this past December, which is given each year to the best center in college football.

Similar to running back Jonathan Taylor there wasn’t much else for Tyler Biadasz to prove at the collegiate level as Biadasz declared early for the NFL Draft. Biadasz started 41 straight games for the Badgers as he was consensus first-team All-Big Ten selection the past two seasons and was a unanimous first-team All-American in 2019.

In this BadgersWire feature, we will examine Biadasz’s strengths, weaknesses and where he could possibly land in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Strengths:

Biadasz’s durability has to impress NFL scouts considering how physical it can be to play in the trenches. Granted Biadasz couldn’t compete in the drills at the NFL scouting combine as he had surgery on his shoulder following the season.

But because he never missed a game in his career should be seen as a positive by NFL teams.

Biadasz has consistently shown to be able to get to the second level as he’s able to win his initial matchup in the trenches thanks to his hand placement and being able to shed the defender in order to open up a running lane.

Biadasz’s technique is consistent, which allows him to be able to take on multiple defenders at times in the trenches.

The consistency that Biadasz plays with also meant that there were very few poor quarterback center exchanges. His ability to get off clean snaps allows him to get into his stance quickly in order to utilize his accurate quick-strike hands to make sure the pocket isn’t collapsed.

Weaknesses:

Biadasz at times will struggle with athletic pass rushers. In order to try and eliminate that at the pro level he’ll need to try and refine his footwork in order to create the base that he needs in order to absorb the initial push.

Biadasz isn’t a great athlete making it important that his technique is consistent with each play as he will face more athletic pass rushers at the professional level. Making it important that Biadasz cleans up his footwork and become more consistent in this area will only help improve his overall game.

In addition, Biadasz can also continue to get stronger in order to help him hold up in both pass and run coverage.

Biadasz has the tools to be successful in the NFL but there are areas where he’ll need to clean up in order to carve out a successful career. Biadasz has the work ethic as it might take him a year to adjust to the pro game before he’s ready.

Tyler Biadasz Landing Spot

Biadasz is ranked as one of the top three centers in the NFL as he’ll likely hear his name called in the third round. Biadasz could end up with the Miami Dolphins or the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys could select Michigan’s Cesar Ruiz who’s considered the best center in the draft. The Cowboys lost starting center and former Wisconsin Badger Travis Frederick to retirement and they will be looking for his replacement.
