Wisconsin was able to add an additional member to their 2020 recruiting class when Oshkosh’s Gavin Meyers announced his commitment to walk-on at Wisconsin on Wednesday in a Twitter post.
Meyers from Lourdes Academy is rated as a five-star punter by Kohl’s Kicking as he also was receiving interest from Iowa and North Dakota State.
Meyers who’s listed at 6’2″ and 170 pounds was named to the 2019 Wisconsin All-Region teams. He also competed in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl.
With Wisconsin losing Anthony Lotti and Connor Allen both to graduation the only returning punter from last year’s team is Conor Schlichting. Schlichting who will be a junior in the fall has yet to appear in a game for the Badgers.
Wisconsin also signed Neenah’s Jack Van Dyke in 2020 but he could either handle kicking or punting for Wisconsin. The Badgers also added Andy Vujnovich as a transfer from the University of Dubuque.
Vujnovich’s eligibility for next year is still being looked at if he’s eligible he’ll be the only punter on Wisconsin’s roster with game experience. Vujnovich averaged 36.7 yards per punt on 49 attempts last season and 15 of his punts landed inside the 20.
