Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez speaks out on the death of George Floyd: “Racism and lack of care for our fellow man must stop”

The face of Wisconsin athletics issued a statement yesterday

[lawrence-newsletter]Yesterday, Wisconsin Athletic Director Barry Alvarez released a statement on the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

The face of Wisconsin athletics provided a message that spoke about the athletic department being a place where minority voices should be and will continue to be heard. Alvarez specifically took time to recognize the pain of the African-American community at Wisconsin, whether it be students, coaches, teachers, or athletic department faculty:

“I want to acknowledge the pain that the African-American students, coaches and staff in our department and community are feeling about this incident. It’s hard to put into words and impossible to relate to. But make no mistake, it is a priority for our athletic department to make sure that voices are heard and support is provided.”
