Willie Tyler is coming off a Rutgers visit this past weekend that he describes as solid and productive. And Rutgers isn’t stopping their recruitment of him yet.

On Monday, just a day after Tyler’s official visit on campus ended, the Rutgers coaching staff will have an in-home visit with the offensive lineman in his home in Wisconsin.

Tyler is one of the top offensive linemen in the transfer portal, having put together a tremendous 2021 season at left tackle for University of Louisiana-Monroe.

“I went over to the facility, met all the coaches, then me and (head coach Greg) Schiano met one-on-one. Honestly, it was just cool talking to him. It wasn’t an awkward silence. It wasn’t like I just met him in person the first time. We talked about coaches we know, I guess that comes with being older and knowing a lot about football and coaching different places,” Tyler told[lawrence-related id=5335] ‘Rutgers Wire.’

“From there, we tried some good food, talked a lot of ball, how they could see me making an impact coming in. They said left tackle – they asked me which position I prefer. I said either or, I could make.”

In addition to his home visit with Rutgers on Monday, Tyler said that SMU, Minnesota and UCF are all scheduled to visit him this weekend.

From Rutgers, it is expected that Schiano as well as coach Augie Hoffman, and coach Andrew Aurich will all be a part of Monday’s visit.

Tyler is hoping to schedule two or three more visits between Wednesday through Sunday then pretty much shut things down and make a decision shortly thereafter. This weekend’s visit helped Tyler along with the process of understanding Rutgers a bit more.

He said that “The visit overall was good” and that “I could see myself fitting in the system.”

“It moved up. They always asked me what I knew about Rutgers. I always know who Rutgers was – they’re Big Ten. I’ve seen them on TV but I never really knew what went on in the program,” Tyler said. “Definitely moved up.”
