William Regal sounds like he will be sticking around AEW for a while

Thankfully, we probably haven’t heard the last of Regal’s flirtatious comments to Excalibur.

Though he still has some questions to answer from Jon Moxley, William Regal should be a fixture in AEW for at least a few more years.

Following some speculation about whether WWE might be interested in a reunion with Regal last week (some of which he helped start), Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer clarified Regal’s contract status with AEW late Sunday night, saying that it’s likely that his current deal runs into 2025.

It wouldn’t be a shock if WWE was interested in bringing Regal back into the fold, given that he held both on-screen and behind the scenes roles in NXT for some time while Paul “Triple H” Levesque was overseeing that brand. With Levesque now heading up all of WWE creative, it’s not hard to imagine he’d be up for a Regal reunion.

But the 54-year-old has found a home in AEW as well, serving as the driving force behind the Blackpool Combat Club — where he’s not exactly a traditional manager, but more than just a mouthpiece since the likes of Moxley and Bryan Danielson don’t really need that. The company has done a nice job playing off his many personal and professional relationships over the years.

The most recent example came when MJF cut an emotional promo discussing how Regal encouraged him at the beginning of his career before providing fuel for his desire for self-improvement by telling him he wasn’t good enough yet. That, in turn, paid off at Full Gear when Regal aided MJF in defeating Moxley to become AEW World Champion, slipping him a pair of brass knuckles.

That subplot is likely to continue playing out over the next few months, and it has to be comforting for AEW fans to know that Regal will likely be around to see that through while continuing to make flirty comments to Excalibur for some time.
