Will Wisconsin QB Jack Coan stay in the Big Ten? A few landing spots could make sense

If Coan stays in the Big Ten, these destinations might make sense

Penn State

Penn State would make sense if Coan heads to the Big Ten East. A team that had QB issues all year long could use a veteran leader such as Coan under center.

With starting quarterback Sean Clifford struggling mightily in his junior season, backup Will Levis played well in relief. But head coach James Franklin could go in a different direction. Clifford threw nine interceptions on the year, and did not look like the sophomore year starter we saw in 2019.

Rutgers

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights had a resurgent 3-6 Big Ten year, which may not be impressive to most programs, but is a major step up for the team from Piscataway.

Rutgers recruited Jack Coan out of high school and was unable to find a consistent solution at quarterback in Greg Schiano’s first year. Plus, Coan was born and raised not far from the Rutgers campus.

Northwestern

Perhaps no destination makes as much sense in the Big Ten as Northwestern. That, however, depends on if Indiana transfer Peyton Ramsey returns. This season does not count against his final year of eligibility, and he led the ‘Cats to a 6-2 finish and a Big Ten Championship game appearance.

If Ramsey leaves, Coan could step into a fantastic situation with a solid defense and second-year offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian, who rejuvenated the Wildcats offense in his first season in Evanston.
