Will 49ers trade up to pick on Day 2 of NFL draft?

The 49ers would need to trade up to make a pick on Day 2 of the draft. It’s hard to envision that happening.

The 49ers were active on Day 1 of the NFL draft with two trades and two picks. The moves left them without a second or third-round pick, and without the necessary 2020 draft capital to make any significant jumps up the board. All indications point to the 49ers standing pat without a pick on Day 2 of the draft.

That’s not to say there aren’t feasible ways for San Francisco to move up. They could dip into next year’s batch of draft picks. They also have a player like Marquise Goodwin on the trading block, but even in a dream scenario the 49ers are likely fetching a fifth-round pick maximum for the 29-year-old receiver.

It’d be interesting to see what player the 49ers would even target in a jump into Day 2. Their next pick is slated for No. 156, which means they’d be moving up at least 50 spots. Unless they think they’re finding a long-term answer in the secondary – there aren’t a ton of needs on their roster that would warrant relinquishing the draft capital necessary to move up that far.

While it’d be fun to see San Francisco wheel and deal to get into the action on Day 2, the chances of it happening are very slim.
