Wild Starfield fan theory predicts release date

A clever reference towards aviation history might be teasing when Bethesda’s space-faring RPG could drop.

Nobody knows exactly when Starfield is coming out, except for perhaps some fans with an incredible wild theory.

Over on Reddit, user Balrog2292 made a post regarding Starfield‘s launch date (Thanks, PC Gamer). Buckle up — this gets pretty bizarre fast.

So after the Starfield gameplay trailer premiered at last month’s Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, YouTuber LoneVaultWanderer pointed out some numbers on the spaceship’s hull: SV 821 393, which references an actual patent number of the Wright brothers’ first-ever flying machine. Back in 2016, the original documents were found in a limestone cave near Kansas City, MO. – confirming that patent No. 821,393 is legit.

It’s a cute nod, but there could be more to it. First, look at the screencaps below, or re-watch the reveal video to see those numbers yourself.

Get this: the aforementioned patent’s filing date is March 23, 1903. Fans note that March 23, 2023, would be the 120th anniversary of that event and when they believe Starfield might release. Yes, all of this is a big stretch, but Bethesda stated that Starfield would release in the first half of 2023. So there is some validity to it.

Obviously, take all of this with an aircraft carrier-sized grain of salt. No matter how cool this idea is, video game development often doesn’t line up with cute marketing ideas. Starfield will be considerably larger than Skyrim, and Bethesda is handcrafting most of the content. So it’ll likely release when everything is ship-shape.
