Why trading for disgruntled Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant doesn’t make sense for the Boston Celtics

Currently a thorn in the side of Brooklyn’s front office, he might become a thorn in the side of the Celtics’, to start.

For the style of fandom or team management inspired by the career of Daryl Morey as an NBA executive, the name of the game is to get as much talent on a roster as possible and then let the capabilities of the stars you have assembled do the rest.

But building teams on paper can often leave out important elements of the human behind the talent, as the Brooklyn Nets are finding out in a way they’d likely rather not.

Sometimes, as with players like Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving, what they do and say when they aren’t playing basketball can create such large headaches that it can negate the value they bring as players.

So, considering that, does it even make sense for the Boston Celtics to consider trading for Durant now that he doesn’t want to play for a team he chose under the coach and executive he elected to play for after walking away from a winning situation on the Golden State Warriors?

There are other, similar potential road bumps to consider in any KD deal as well, a topic covered in detail with the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast with guest Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to see what pitfalls might be baked into any deal for Durant.
