The Tennessee Titans selected former Georgia offensive tackle Isaiah Wilson with the 29th pick in the 2020 NFL draft, getting a perfect fit for their biggest need on offense.
We’ve been touting Wilson as a first-round pick for a while now, so it was no surprise to see Tennessee pull the trigger on him near the end of the first round.
Wilson came to Georgia as a five-star prospect out of Brooklyn. One look at how he’s built and it’s easy to see why he’s been highly regarded as a prospect since his high school days. Wilson is simply put a mountain of a man that stands in at 6-6, 350 pounds.
Wilson possesses the arm length that NFL coaches look for in a franchise offensive tackle. He also moves incredibly well for his size, showing the footwork that makes him such an intriguing prospect.
It’s no surprise that a team like the Titans decided to roll the dice on Wilson’s raw ability. He does his best work as a bully in the run game, and projects as an excellent fit in the Titans smash-mouth running attack powered by Derrick Henry. Wilson is expected to compete with veteran Dennis Kelly for the starting job at right tackle. Georgia ran a lot of wide zone on offense, and Wilson was drafted by an outside zone team in Tennessee. The fit is perfect.
You have to give Tennessee some credit. They have a clear identity, and they doubled down on who they are with this selection. That sort of roster building is one of the reasons they’re coming off an appearance in the AFC Championship Game.
Wilson may not be an instant starter for the Titans, but we wouldn’t be surprised if this pick pays off in a major way sooner rather than later.
