The Boston Celtics are negotiating a potential supermax contract extension worth in the neighborhood of $300 million over the course of five seasons with All-NBA forward Jaylen Brown, but there have been delays ostensibly caused by the need for Brown to travel overseas, and perhaps over the finer-grained aspects of the deal.
There might be an opportunity for both sides to get creative with the contract, potentially including player and team options for more flexibility, as well as a potential trade kicker of minimal utility and perhaps even something relevant to Brown’s payment schedule. But it should be noted that nothing we have seen or heard — yet — is out of the ordinary.
The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Beat” podcast recently linked up with Heavy’s Steve Bulpett to talk over the Georgia native’s new deal, what could be slowing it as well as other potential changes coming.
