Why Jalen Hurts could be the surprise fantasy football QB to win you a playoff game

Go grab him if you need a QB.

If you’re making the playoffs in fantasy football this year, it’s probable that you have a starting quarterback on your squad that you can stick with for a possible postseason run.

That said, the news broke on Tuesday that the Philadelphia Eagles are benching Carson Wentz and starting Jalen Hurts. And he could end up winning some playoff games for you.

We saw some good (109 yards passing and a touchdown) and bad (an interception) against the Green Bay Packers in his limited appearance last week.  But when you see a throw like the one below, you start to think maybe there’s something good happening here.

Seriously — this looked really good, as did the touchdown:

In a very pass-heavy offense (the Eagles have the fifth-fewest rushes this year), it’s possible he could put up some solid fantasy stats, even if he throws an INT or two. And that’s before we talk about what he can do with his legs — remember, Wentz has scored five touchdowns on the ground this year.

The problem is this week, he’s facing the Saints’ elite defense, but after that, it’s the Cardinals and Cowboys, two very vulnerable Ds who can be thrown on.

So if you’re in a 2QB league, you’re absolutely picking him up and maybe stashing him for Weeks 15 and 16. In ones with one starting quarterback, if you have one of the options just outside the top-12 — Matthew Stafford, Kirk Cousins, Derek Carr, maybe Ben Roethlisberger, etc. — I’d be totally into rolling the dice with Hurts after this week, which means breaking one of my personal rules in fantasy playoffs (I don’t carry two QBs into the postseason, see below).

But it could be worth it for Hurts.
