Why Jaguars fans should be excited about K’Lavon Chaisson

The Jaguars landed a dynamic edge defender in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft with LSU’s K’Lavon Chaisson

The Jaguars went defense with their two first-round picks in the 2020 NFL draft, selecting LSU edge rusher K’Lavon Chaisson with the No. 20 overall pick, just 11 selections after taking Florida cornerback C.J. Henderson.

Assuming Yannick Ngakoue’s tenure in Jacksonville has concluded, Chaisson should slide right into the starting lineup for the Jaguars.

A freakish athlete off the edge, Chaisson has tremendous first-step quickness and has dynamic flexibility when he rushes the passer. He has very good athleticism in space, showing at LSU that he can make plays with his raw speed as a backside defender and drop back in coverage with his tremendous direction-changing ability. He plays with a high motor on a consistent basis and has shown some promise working off of blocks to make plays against the run.

With Jacksonville having torn down their defense and trading away numerous proven veterans for draft picks, they will need some building blocks as they enter a rebuilding phase, and Chaisson has the upside to develop into exactly that. He and Josh Allen form a young and extremely athletic tandem at the edge rusher position, giving them two talented pass rushers for cheap in the long run.

As the Jaguars look to turn their organization around yet again, they found a potential stud at a premium position later than many expected he would be selected.
