Why Dolphins fans should be excited about Tua Tagovailoa

The Miami Dolphins landed their franchise quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft with Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa

Much like the Cincinnati Bengals fans, Miami Dolphins supporters should be thrilled about their future now that they have secured a franchise quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa.

Early on in the 2020 NFL Draft process the running discussion surrounded Joe Burrow vs Tua. Who would the Miami Dolphins target? The Dolphins got their man in Tua, without having to own the No. 1 overall pick or trade up at all.

Number one in your program, and number one in your heart, Tagovailoa looks to bring the Miami Dolphins back to the top of the AFC East division. With Tom Brady coming to Florida and leaving the AFC completely, that division is now wide open. It has been 12 years since someone other than New England won the division, that team was the Miami Dolphins in 2008.

Tagovailoa now is set to take over as the franchise quarterback. There are some concerns given that he has been hurt the last two season at the college level but there are high hopes for the former National Champion and 2018 All-American quarterback. The Dolphins made sure to give him protection with their picks of Austin Jackson at pick 01.18 and Robert Hunt at pick 02.39.

At this moment Ryan Fitzpatrick is ahead of him in the depth chart but that shouldn’t last long at all. The expectation being that Tua will be QB1 by season’s end especially given that the cycle for Fitzmagic is that he will give up the spot before taking over on another team much like he did with the Jets and Bills.

Tua brings big game experience from playing at Alabama to a relatively young team. One should expect him to become fast friends with top wide receiver DaVante Parker. They should prove to be a deadly combination in Miami for years to come. With Tagovailoa in the fold and a wide open division, 2020 could be the year that the Dolphins climb out of the bottom of the AFC East.
