Why Bengals fans should be excited about Joe Burrow

The Cincinnati Bengals are primed for a return to NFL relevance after spending this year’s No. 1 overall pick on LSU quarterback Joe Burrow

In the NFL if a team doesn’t have a quarterback, there is essentially no hope for their franchise to compete with the top teams in the league.

Much the reason why it was so vital for the Cincinnati Bengals to grab the top college quarterback of the 2019 season in LSU’s Joe Burrow. He returns to his home state in hopes that he can bring the Bengals out of the doldrums of the AFC North division, one that has been owned by the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers for the last four years.

The selection of Burrow has breathed new life into a fanbase that has been waiting for the Bengals to reclaim the divisional crown. In 2013 and 2015, Andy Dalton led the team to that title, but with Dalton now moving on to Dallas, it is Burrow’s team. A homecoming story for an Ohio kid chasing his dream, Burrow will have weapons at his disposal as they rebuild under second-year head coach Zac Taylor.

Along with Burrow, Tee Higgins joins the team as the rookie duo will look to prove that the Bengals will rule the state of Ohio, not to mention A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd, Auden Tate, John Ross to round out the receiving corps. Factor in Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard in the backfield, and the Bengals have a strong core of young offensive players they can rely on in 2020 and beyond.

With any young quarterback there will be growing pains, but Burrow was one of the more pro-ready quarterbacks in the draft class. Burrow and LSU offensive coordinator Joe Brady were able to create a memorable season. Brady had previously worked with the New Orleans Saints before joining the Tigers. He helped mold Burrow into the quarterback that he is. He should prove to be one of the best young quarterbacks in the game and Bengals fans should be excited about 2020 and beyond.
