When training camp starts on Tuesday, the Brooklyn Nets will be preparing for a 2023-24 season in which they hope that they make it to the playoffs and hopefully, make a run. One of the aspects of camp that will be watched closely is another position competition, but not for the starting point guard spot.
Over the course of training camp, the Nets will be evaluating who will be the starting power forward for the upcoming season. While there has been no indication from the team if who has the lead in the competition, the assumption is that the job will be between Dorian Finney-Smith, last season’s starter and Royce O’Neale, the backup.
When it comes to this position battle, no matter who wins, the other will most likely get a lot of playing time and be one of the main players coming off the bench in the rotation. One of the things to remember is that once Finney-Smith came to the team as a result of the Kyrie Irving trade, O’Neale came off the bench ever since.
This may not mean that Finney-Smith goes into training camp as the presumed starter, but with both of the players being similar in terms of ability, it will be an interesting battle to see develop over the course of camp.
