The Indianapolis Colts are one of the most difficult teams to project going into the 2023 season, but the top of their roster in terms of talent is relatively easy to see.

Pro Football Focus went through listing the top three players on each team’s roster going into the 2023 season. This is what they came up with, along with another trio of honorable mentions:

Jonthan Taylor (4th season)
DeForest Buckner (8th season)
Quenton Nelson (6th season)

This exercise was a good reminder that although the 2022 season was a disaster in Indianapolis, the roster will have good talent. Taylor remains one of the best backs in the league, and though it was a quiet year for Nelson, he’s still an imposing trench player. Buckner is an impact player every year. Shaquille Leonard, Isaiah Rodgers, Michael Pittman Jr. and others are also standouts for a Colts team that could enjoy a big bounce-back year in 2023.

Also Considered: LB Shaquille Leonard, CB Isaiah Rodgers, WR Michael Pittman Jr.

Taylor, Buckner and Nelson are widely considered the top players on the roster for the Colts. Leonard would be up there as well, but the question marks surrounding his health muddy the situation a bit.

Rodgers has been one of the more underrated players on the roster since he entered the league, but the investigation of him potentially violating the league’s gambling policy makes it difficult to project his upcoming season. Pittman Jr. had 99 receptions despite three different quarterbacks starting for the Colts in 2022.

It will be interesting to see if any of the rookies or new players coming onto the roster will make this list at this time next year.
