While rookie Grant Williams looks for his shot, at least he has a sense of humor

After starting his inaugural season 0-for-22 from three, Grant Williams and teammates are finding humor in his inability to hit from deep.

He might not be on his way to being a three-point marksman at the NBA level, but that’s not stopping rookie forward Grant Williams from having a little fun with his teammates about his shooting percentages from beyond the arc.

Standing at 0-for-22 all-time from three ahead of Friday night’s rematch with the Denver Nuggets at TD Garden, Williams has picked up some humorous nicknames from his fellow Boston Celtics due to his early propensity to miss.

Surprisingly, it’s been head coach Brad Stevens coming up with the bulk of the jokes, according to the Tennessee product.

“Brad’s gotten names for every number I’ve gone up,” Williams offered, courtesy of NBC Sports Boston’s Celtics Post Up show via Justin Leger. “So it’s gone from ‘dub’ to ‘legal’ ’cause I was 0-for-21 so I’m legal now.”

“Hopefully I can knock one in so then I can start a streak of makes where they can say the same,” added the Charlotte native, surprisingly laid back for someone whose poor shooting has become a news story unto itself.

To be fair, it’s still a young season and a streak that’s bound to break sooner than later. Williams will have a chance to make a clean start with the misses tonight against the Nuggets.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed — they’ll start running out of nicknames if he doesn’t start connecting.
