Our take
The matchup with Kirby Smart’s Georgia team on Halloween is clearly the most important game of the season for Florida. In Mullen’s two years in Gainesville, he’s undefeated against rivals Tennessee and Florida State but has yet to score a win in perhaps the most important of all of UF’s rivalries: its border dispute with the Bulldogs.
The Gators will have one of the strongest, most experienced rosters in the country heading into the 2020 season, and though UGA has continued to recruit at an extraordinarily high level, the talent gap between the two programs seems to have closed a bit. With a new quarterback under center for Georgia in 2020, this feels like the year for Florida to overtake its divisional rival in the SEC East.
All of UF’s goals require first getting to the SEC Championship Game in Atlanta, and the only feasible way for that to happen will require beating the Bulldogs in the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party Florida-Georgia rivalry game.
The bottom line: If Florida is going to compete for an SEC title and vie for a playoff spot, it has to beat Georgia on the last day of October.
