Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers put together the best performance of his collegiate career against No. 3 Alabama in Tuscaloosa last week.
Ewers looked poised and accurate throughout the entire game, finishing with 349 passing yards and three touchdowns. The Longhorns handed Nick Saban his worst loss as the Alabama head coach behind Ewers’ stellar play.
His performance against the Crimson Tide has the national media discussing Ewers among the top quarterbacks in the country heading into Week 3. On3’s Andrew Graham released his quarterback rankings on Wednesday and placed Ewers at No. 8 on the list.
Ewers had as big a stage as he’ll have in his college career on Saturday night and didn’t squander his opportunity. The third-year signal caller was nothing short of spectacular when needed as Texas soundly beat Alabama, 34-24, in Bryant-Denny Stadium.
And the Longhorns did it on the back — or right arm — of Ewers. He completed 24-of-38 for 349 yards and three touchdowns, including a pair of beautiful deep balls to Xavier Worthy and Adonai Mitchell.
No. 8 seems quite low considering the stage Ewers played on in Tuscaloosa and what he was able to accomplish. Some even view him as having Heisman potential after that performance.
Other national media analysts, such as ESPN’s Mel Kiper, view Ewers as a top-five quarterback prospect for the 2024 NFL draft and potential first-round pick.
Ewers will need to show consistency over the next 10 games if he hopes to lead Texas to a conference championship and beyond.
