Where LSU stands in SEC baseball power rankings after shakeup following opening weekend of conference play

The Tigers fell one spot this week after a series loss at Mississippi State.

One weekend of SEC baseball play is in the books, and it resulted in quite a bit of shakeup in On3’s SEC power rankings.

LSU opened the week with a pair of midweek wins over North Dakota State, but it suffered a frustrating series loss over the weekend on the road against Mississippi State.

It ranked No. 2 in On3’s SEC power rankings from Jonathan Wagner entering the weekend, but it fell one spot to No. 3 and was leapfrogged by Vanderbilt, which earned a weekend sweep over a ranked Auburn team.

The Tigers remain ahead of Florida, who they face this weekend in Baton Rouge.

LSU began last week with a pair of midweek wins over North Dakota State, winning 6-1 on Tuesday and 7-0 on Wednesday. They then hit the road for a trip to Starkville, kicking off SEC play at Mississippi State. It was the Bulldogs that took Friday’s opener 10-4, though LSU evened the series on Saturday with a 9-8 victory. In Sunday’s rubber match, LSU was run-ruled in a 15-5 loss, a surprising result to end a difficult weekend. This week won’t be any easier with Florida coming to town.

The Gators moved up two spots this week after taking two of three against previously unbeaten Texas A&M, and LSU will look to halt that success at Alex Box Stadium.
