Week 14 of the 2020 NFL season saw another of the usual suspects leading the way for the Buffalo Bills against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Week in and week out it seems like it’s one of a few guys doing so and this time it was wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Buffalo’s No. 1 wideout had one of his best games of his inaugural season with the Bills (10-3), a 10 catch, 130-yard outing with a touchdown.
Diggs has sat around the top of the receiving charts throughout 2020, and naturally, such a huge game has vaulted him up those again. In terms of yards, Diggs left Week 14 with the third-most in the NFL:
Last week, Diggs was in the No. 5 spot in receiving yards in the league. He jumped the Chiefs’ Tyreek Hill and Vikings’ Justin Jefferson (1,078). Diggs’ efforts also saw him regain his No. 1 overall spot which he held earlier this season: Catches. With 100 total, Diggs became the first player in the league to his triple digits in 2020.
Diggs had previously led the league in catches for an extended period, however, a 16-catch game for the Chargers’ Keenan Allen a few weeks back against the Jets flew him up. Allen left Week 14 with 99 grabs and only had one catch on Thursday Night Football due to injury, so Diggs has a chance against the Broncos in Week 15 to repay Allen for that 16.
In regard to some other stats: Diggs has 53 catches for first downs (8th) and five touchdowns (T-9th). Rookie Gabriel Davis actually has more scores on the year with six.
While we’re on Buffalo’s No. 1, let’s go to the slot guy before checking in on the QB. Receiver Cole Beasley didn’t have one of his big games against the Steelers, but did add five catches and 41 yards to his stat sheet on the year. Beasley’s season totals in catches and yards are up to 71 and 838 each, good for 16th and 20th best in the NFL, respectively. In terms of yardage, Beasley’s already at a career-high and needs five more catches over the course of the Bills’ final three games for a personal best there as well.
Now let’s look at the man of the hour each week, quarterback Josh Allen. Not his best game, but not his worst game against the Steelers. Allen was 24-for-43 passing with 238 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. His passing yards help him to a status quo.
Allen was fifth last week and stayed there this week:
The only change was the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers‘ jump to No. 3 in a tie with Seahawks QB Russell Wilson. Aside from that, the top-five overall looked exactly the same a week ago.
Also keeping pace was Allen’s touchdown passes (27). He stayed at sixth in that category as well.
Unfortunately Allen did see some negative play in terms of completion percent (68.6) and interceptions (9). Allen’s completion number dropped from fourth to sixth, while his nine picks is tied for the sixth-most. He was previously at ninth.
