Florida football is in the midst of doldrums unseen since the end of the 1970s as the program pivots from the Dan Mullen to Billy Napier eras. That transition has been a tough one for Gators fans after two-straight losing seasons that also included a handful of embarrassing losses.
It has not always been that way in Gainesville, where once upon a time national championships and Heisman Trophy winners graced the Orange and Blue. Coming into the new millennium, UF had one of the best head coaches in the history of the game at the helm in Steve Spurrier, but his departure led to a carousel of skippers that had widely varying levels of success.
