Where does five-star Maalik Murphy fit in with Texas’ top QB recruits in history?

Take a look at where Maalik Murphy’s prospect grade fits among Texas’ top quarterback recruits since 2000.

With reports surfacing that five-star quarterback Maalik Murphy is set to visit Texas on a self-guided tour next week, Longhorns Wire decided to take a look at where Murphy’s prospect grade fits among the Longhorns’ top recruits at the position since 2000.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian is known as a quarterback guru and that has opened the door for the nation’s top signal-callers to consider the University of Texas. Although Murphy has yet to commit to Texas or even announce his top schools, the visit is a great indicator the Longhorns have promising potential.

Murphy is a highly-touted pro-style quarterback prospect from Gardena, California. He is considered the No. 2 overall player at his position from the 2022 recruiting class and is rated a top-30 recruit nationally.

Texas has a storied history of iconic players and one of the most recognizable brands in all of college sports. A few of the names on this list had incredible careers on the Forty Acres. Others didn’t work out, and one is still pending. It’s no surprise Vince Young was the highest-graded quarterback recruit for the Longhorns, but where does Murphy fall on the list of those who have come before him?

The prospect grades are determined by 247Sports composite rankings and date to the year 2000. If Sarkisian is able to land a player of Murphy’s caliber, it will bring incredible momentum to the Texas football program.
