Oklahoma (25-25, 9-12) is finishing up the regular season this week on the road in Waco against conference foe Baylor (30-16, 10-11) in a three-game set opening up Thursday night.

While the Sooners are not going to be able to get an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, this series is still very important for seeding in next week’s Big 12 tournament – which Oklahoma will need to find a way to win to try and keep their season alive moving forward. A series win or loss here could be the difference in seeing possibly Oklahoma State (who the Sooners have played tough) or Texas Tech (who Oklahoma has greatly struggled with) in the first round.

The Bears, meanwhile, are a team currently just on the right side of the bubble as a team that looks to be in position for an at-large bid when the brackets are revealed based off projections from both Baseball America and D1Baseball. This is still an important set of games for them, though, to try and pad their resume further and, just like the Sooners, try to improve their positioning for the conference tournament.

This series will provide the 97th, 98th and 99th all-time meetings between Oklahoma and Baylor, with the Sooners holding the narrow historical edge 50-46. These two teams also met once earlier in this year in a non-conference game in Round Rock, with Skip Johnson’s club winning that one 9-3. The Bears are coached by Steve Rodriguez in his sixth year with the program.
