The Denver Broncos met with all of the best quarterback prospects in this year’s class at the NFL combine, including the “Big Three” quarterbacks who could go off the board within the first three picks.
If the Broncos hope to land one of the three best QBs in this year’s class, the team would likely need to trade up. And if coach Sean Payton wants to select QB1, the team would have to trade all the way up to No. 1 overall.
So, what would it take for Denver to move up that high?
“I think you’d really have to love someone,” general manager George Paton said at the combine on Feb. 27. “To move up to the [No.] 1 [pick], I don’t know if we have the draft capital to do that. We’re open for anything, but that would be hard to move up to No. 1, realistically.”
The Broncos currently hold six draft picks. They would like to acquire more picks through trades, but as things stand now, Denver doesn’t have much ammo to move up the board. Moving down from 12th overall would obviously be easier than moving up.
“Yes, it’s easier to trade down with where we are at No. 12,” Paton said. “It just depends on who’s there. We feel like there’s going to be 12-15 players that we have high grades on. Where we’re picking is going to be very valuable if we do want to move down.”
The 2024 NFL draft will be held in Detroit from April 25-27.
