Despite only playing one half against UTEP on Sept. 12, Sam Ehlinger had a historic night for the Longhorns. The senior quarterback ended with 426 yards and five touchdowns while completing 75.8% of his passes. Going to Big 12 play against Texas Tech, more of the same is coming.

The Red Raiders opened its 2020 season against Houston Baptist, a now 0-2 FCS opponent. Despite the lower level status, the Huskies’ offense dominated, especially in the passing game. Quarterback Bailey Zappe had 567 yards on 49 attempts. He added on four touchdowns with no interceptions.

Now, Ehlinger, the best quarterback in the Big 12 will have the opportunity to one-up Zappe’s performance. In 2019, Texas Tech’s pass defense ranked 128 out 130. Mike Yurcich’s offense is going to fully open after being “vanilla” against UTEP. Ehlinger is going to have a monster afternoon.
