Buffalo can let it all hang out against New England
The Bills have achieved their main goal for the 2019 season – making the playoffs. The Bills’ playoff spot is secured with two games left to go. The Bills have clinched at least the no. 5 seed for the 2019 playoffs. However, there is another prize the Bills can still claim.
The AFC East is still in play, with the Patriots just a game ahead of Buffalo. The Bills will get their shot at New England Saturday afternoon at Gillette Stadium, a house of horrors for the Bills over the years. The Bills still need help in the form of a second Patriots loss in Week 17 to have a shot at the division title, but the Bills really have nothing to lose now after claiming their playoff spot.
Their situation would be a lot murkier if the Bills had lost Sunday night and suddenly found themselves still needing to win one of their final two games to clinch a playoff spot. That would make Saturday’s game much more stressful than it needs to be. With the playoff spot clinched, the Bills essentially have a free roll to use here. The Bills can play relaxed and confidently against a New England team that has stumbled a bit during the later portion of this season. Sean McDermott and company should be able to let it all hang out in Foxborough.
There’s no need for the Bills to be tight heading into Gillette Stadium on Saturday. The Bills will be underdogs, as they always are against New England. No one really will be expecting the Bills to win. McDermott’s team has thrived in these situations all year long. With a win, the Bills can actually put pressure on the Patriots to win their finale against Miami or risk being relegated to the wild card round.
If you’re the Bills, you can’t ask for a much better scenario than this. The Bills don’t have to worry about losing their playoff spot and can put everything they have into winning this game in Foxborough. It’s like playing with found money.
