Now that we are up to our collective necks in the summer doldrums of the 2023 NBA offseason, Boston Celtics media outlets have begun to lean on the critical mode of offseason content creation, the counterfactual analysis — or as most people tend to think about it, the “what if” aspect of thinking about our favorite ball club.
That is the tack taken by John Karalis on a recent episode of the “Locked On Celtics” podcast, where the host tries to imagine how the 2022-23 season might have unfolded if certain things had broken other ways, such as if Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Danilo Gallinari, and Malcolm Brogdon did not suffer injuries.
While, as these exercises always are, an impossible-to-prove effort to think about the Celtics, it is an intriguing deep dive into alternate realities we had the misfortune of missing out on in the timeline we call home.
