What Evan Stewart brings to Steve Sarkisian’s offense

No other uncommitted prospect could have been a bigger commitment than Evan Stewart. Here are a few things he will bring to Texas’ offense.

A top in-state wide receiver win

The one position Texas has struggled recruiting within the state has been wide receiver. Programs such as Alabama, Ohio State, and Oklahoma have dominated, stealing the top pass catchers away and turning them into stars. Jaylen Waddle, JoJo Earle, Garrett Wilson, Theo Wase, and Marvin Mims are all recent names who come to mind.

Ohio State had already landed a commit from the No. 1 in-state receiver in the 2022 class with Caleb Burton. Stewart was going to be the next one to elude the Longhorns with Alabama, Georgia, and Oregon hot on the trail. Thanks to Sarkisian’s introduction, the No. 2 receiver in the state saw the development potential with the new head coach, something that was lacking under Tom Herman.

Now, keeping Stewart locked down for the next 10 months is going to be the challenge. Even when a prospect commits, competing programs are going to be in their ear. Especially if Texas is struggling through another four-loss season and top SEC teams are competing for national championships. Show signs of progress on the field and Sarkisian will keep his most dangerous passing game weapon locked down.
