Longhorns Wire staff asked several NFL Draft analysts what they’d like to see out of Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger at the Senior Bowl.
Although the 2020 season was unlike any other due to the COVID-19 pandemic limiting the number of games, Ehlinger actually regressed as a senior.
His up and down play was evident in nearly every contest this season. At times, Ehlinger struggled with accuracy issues down field. That’s seemingly always been the knock on him throughout his collegiate career in Austin. However, his legs and physical nature of play are certainly on the other end of the spectrum.
Ehlinger has yet to officially declare for the 2021 NFL Draft, but many believe it’s just a matter of time. In November, Ehlinger accepted the Reese’s Senior Bowl invite which alludes to the fact that he will not return to the Forty Acres.
Take a look at what each NFL Draft expert hopes to see from Ehlinger at the Senior Bowl in order to increase his draft stock.
“Be accurate throwing the ball. He’s just not an anticipation thrower, which will be tough to prove in that type of setting.” – The Athletic’s Dane Brugler
“Needs to show consistency. He’s got the tools. Come out and show leadership, accurate ball placement, and consistency.” – Benjamin Allbright of KOA Radio in Denver
“I want to see Ehlinger consistently hit timing routes and making anticipatory throws. It can be tough to establish that in limited practice with unfamiliar receivers, but getting the ball out at the top of a 5-or 7-step drop exactly on time and delivering an accurate throw to where a receiver is going and not where he’s at would be a good step. Ehlinger has enough arm strength and I think his athleticism will fare well enough in team drills.” – Jeff Risdon of Lions Wire/Browns Wire
