Agyie Hall sounded like an almost prototypical Nick Saban receiver when he signed with the Alabama Crimson Tide last year.
Being from Florida (a favorite hunting ground of Saban’s), he easily caught the eyes of elite programs. At 6-foot-3 with elite speed and acceleration, he seemed like a match made in heaven for Saban.
Yet for one reason or another, Hall never materialized with the Crimson Tide. However, when he did get his chances you saw signs he could be special. Not many receivers got consistently open against Georgia last year, but in the national championship of all places, Hall flashed his ability to get open, his acceleration, and how difficult it is to be tackle him in open space.
Hall is now in the transfer portal and has taken an unofficial visit to the Texas Longhorns and Steve Sarkisian. What difference could he make?
Answer: A very large one.
Xavier Worthy looks like a potential first-round talent, but he will often be double-teamed this coming year. Quinn Ewers or Hudson Card will need an additional weapon to throw to, and Hall has all the tools to be special. With all the attention on Worthy, Hall will often be matched in single coverage where his speed and length will be difficult for opposing cornerbacks to deal with.
Increased attention to the receivers also allows more lanes for Bijan Robinson to run through, and we know what this man can do in the open field.
Last year, several games (especially the Baylor game) were lost by not having a consistent second option. Hall can be that option if Sarkisian can seal the deal.
