The first season of the [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] era on the Bayou is complete with a big win over Purdue in the Citrus Bowl. The Tigers finish the season with a 10-4 record.
What a change a year can make. Last year, LSU was 6-7 and lost what seemed like half the team to the transfer portal. Insert Kelly, who signed a top-10 recruiting class, brought in his own coaching staff and changed the culture on the Bayou. Ten wins and an appearance in the SEC Championship is not what anyone outside of the program expected in the first season, but Kelly beat the odds.
Here’s what he said will stick with him from his first season.
“Probably the relationships with the players and developing new relationships with 115 players and getting to know them. That, to me, in Year 1, the first time here, you don’t know any of the players and they don’t know you. I think our first meeting said hey, we’re going to build trust, but it’s going to take time for both sides. And I think that that’s what happened. And I’ll remember that in Year 1, that process of building trust.”
The future looks bright for LSU under Kelly.
