What Bills’ Sean McDermott, Brandon Beane said about Jordan Poyer

What #Bills’ Sean McDermott, Brandon Beane said about Jordan Poyer amid his contract situation:

It’s too early to fret about safety Jordan Poyer, there is still plenty of time for him and the Buffalo Bills to work on his contract situation.

But it’s worth noting that Poyer is not at the team’s voluntary offseason workouts.

Poyer, 30, changed his agent recently and it has become known he wants a new deal. This season he is entering the final year of his contract.

The Bills are not in any position to be upset with him though… and they aren’t.

“I’ve been in communication with Jordan,” Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott said via video conference. “That’s part of the NFL and how things work at this time of the year, some business that’s gong on. I love Jordan, I love his family and he’s been a big part of what we’ve done here to this point.”

That “business” is traditionally not handled by McDermott.

That’s where Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane comes in.

Beane has to figure out if and how he can resolve things.

Step one appears to be compliments.

“Jordan’s been a really good player,” Beane said via video conference. “He’s been a good pro. I think he’s done a great job. He’s been an integral part of our defense. When you look at some of the steady pieces that have been here through when it wasn’t as good to where we are now, and I give him and some of those other guys a lot of credit.”

Step two: Let your feelings be known.

“I want Jordan here. I’m not looking for anything different than that. It’s just business gets in the way sometimes, and I respect that,” Beane said.

Poyer earned his All-Pro honors last season. He notched 93 tackles, including eight for loss, with three sacks, nine passes defended and five interceptions.

Poyer is entering his sixth year with the Bills and 10th NFL season in 2022.

It remains to be seen if there will be a seventh.
