What are the Kansas City Chiefs saying about former Rutgers football star Isiah Pacheco?

Isiah Pacheco is creating some buzz within the Kansas City Chiefs organization.

Former Rutgers football running back Isiah Pacheco is settling in nicely with the Kansas City Chiefs. He seems to be making quite the impression in the NFL with his new team.

Pacheco has done a little bit of everything with the Chiefs as the seventh round pick in this spring’s NFL draft has proven his versatility and athleticism. In preseason, he has pieced together some solid runs and has been an asset catching the ball out of the backfield.

And in the preseason opener, a loss at the Chicago Bears, he had a 37-yard kickoff return. This week, special teams coordinator Dave Taub lamented the lack of chances in the last preseason game for Pacheco to have any kickoff returns.

And there is hype for sure around Pacheco, and it isn’t just from the fanbase but in fact is spreading to the Chiefs locker room as well.

“Yeah, I think everybody around here is excited for him, Center Creed Humphrey told reporters this week.

“He’s got a lot of talent, he’s really athletic, really strong, runs the ball really hard, so everybody’s really excited about him. He’s going to continue to get better with (repetitions). I’m excited to see where he goes this season.”

That feeling extends to management, where Pacheco appears to be stating his case for a larger role in the offense.

Chiefs general manager Brett Veach likes that Ronald Jones and Pacheco make “a good complement there with a bigger back that once they square their shoulders and really move the pile.”

Head coach Andy Reid was asked after the Chiefs’ win over the Washington Commanders this past weekend what he thought about Pacheco’s performance as well as Jones.

“Now this is what I’ll watch in the tape, but I thought he ran hard. I thought both those guys (ran hard),” Reid said.

“They’re big men and they play big. They weren’t shying away from anything.”
